FCC names Jonathan Williams chief economist

The Trump administration has appointed Jonathan Williams as chief economist of the Federal Communications Commission.

Williams will also serve as chief of the agency’s office of economics and analytics. He previously was a professor of economics at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he directed the Center for Regulatory and Industrial Studies.

The FCC chief economist advises the chairman, commissioners and bureaus on economic issues. Williams’ academic work focuses on industrial organization and applied econometrics.

He holds degrees from Ohio University and a doctorate in economics from the University of Virginia.
