The macroeconomist takes up the appointment on Sept. 2.
He obtained his Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and earlier in his career worked at Bloomberg L.P.
Alan M Garber has served as interim president of Harvard University since January.
He takes on the interim role following the departure of Matthew Holt, who has left to join Clemson University.
The economist joined BOE’s monetary committee in September 2021 will now remain on it until Sept. 5 2027.
