Economist Abel gets tenure at Bowdoin

Bowdoin College has awarded tenure to labor economist Martin Abel, effective July 1.
He is an applied microeconomist whose research centers on development, labor and behavioral economics, with a focus on gender discrimination and frictions faced by job seekers in labor markets.
Abel joined Bowdoin in 2022 after serving on faculty at Middlebury College. He obtained a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 2017 and a master of public administration in international development from Harvard Kennedy School in 2010.
The tenure decision was recommended by the Board of Trustees’ Academic Affairs Committee at the college.
