Economist Shore-Sheppard appointed as faculty dean at Williams College

Williams College has appointed Professor of Economics Lara Shore-Sheppard as the institution’s dean of the faculty.

She is a health and labor economist who has worked at the college since 2000, when she joined as an assistant professor of economics. During that time, she has taught courses ranging from health care economics to econometrics, and has chaired both the department of economics and the program in political economy.

Shore-Sheppard will start work in the new role on July 1.

Commenting on her appointment, Williams College President Maud Mandel said: “I am thrilled that Lara has accepted the position of Dean of the Faculty.”

She added: “We are fortunate that someone of her abilities, experience, and dedication to faculty interests is willing to assume this role, continuing our tradition of filling senior administrative positions from within our ranks.”

The dean of the faculty at Williams College is the institution’s chief academic officer. They are responsible for the faculty and curriculum and consult with members of the faculty on all issues of concern.
