Larry Summers to leave Harvard amid Epstein fallout

Economist and former Harvard University president Lawrence H. Summers will resign from teaching at the end of the academic year, The New York Times reported.

Summers has been on leave since November, and according to a Harvard spokesperson will not return to teaching before he departs the institution. He has also resigned as co-director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government.

The announcement comes months after fresh document releases by the U.S. Department of Justice showed a close relationship between the economist and Jeffrey Epstein after Epstein was convicted of prostitution involving a minor.

Harvard spokesperson Jason Newton told The Times that Summers’ resignation came “in connection with the ongoing review by the University of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein that were recently released by the government.”
