UCLA economist Martha Bailey wins Carolyn Shaw Bell award
The American Economic Association has awarded UCLA economist Martha Bailey the 2022 Carolyn Shaw Bell prize.
She wins the accolade for her personal journey in the academy and for her research, which analyzes the relationship between family planning and women’s social and economic outcomes.
Winners of the Carolyn Shaw Bell prize are selected annually by the Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession of the American Economic Association. Since 1998 it has been given annually to an individual who has furthered the status of women in the field.
Bailey is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. She also currently serves on the editorial board of the American Economic Review and is an editor at the Journal of Labor Economics.
The award will be presented at the 2023 American Economic Association conference.
