George Davis to lead Virginia Tech agricultural economics department
Virginia Tech has named George Davis as interim head of the university’s department of agricultural and applied economics.
He started work in the role on Aug. 1 following the departure of Matthew Holt, who left to become dean of Clemson University’s College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences.
Davis joined VT’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 2007, and has held the role of associate department head of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics since early last year.
His research is focused on food and health economics, including on the use of more informative measures of food poverty. He teaches courses in food and health economics and food systems at the university.
Davis has Ph.D. in economics from North Carolina State University.
