Bank of England reappoints Huw Pill to monetary policy committee
The Bank of England has reappointed economist Huw Pill to the central bank’s monetary policy committee.
He is currently chief economist and executive director for monetary analysis and research at the bank, in which role he is responsible for all analysis used to make monetary policy decisions.
Pill was appointed to BOE’s monetary committee in September 2021 for a three-year term, and will now remain on it until Sept. 5 2027.
Earlier in his career, he was chief European economist at Goldman Sachs, and deputy director of research at the European Central Bank. He was also head of the ECB’s monetary policy stance division.
Pill is a member of the faculty of Harvard Business School, and has an MA and Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University.
In a statement, BOE said Pill will continue in the role “following consideration by the Chancellor of a number of factors, including the diversity of the current committee and its balance of skills and experience.”
BOE’s monetary policy committee makes decisions about the operation of monetary policy, and reappoints are not automatic. It is made up of the governor, three deputy governors, the bank’s chief economist, and four external members.
