Economic historian Wayne Geerling has been appointed as a professor of instruction within the economics department of the University of Texas at Austin.
He leaves Monash after working at the University since 2018 as a senior lecturer, and according to LinkedIn previously held senior lectureships at Arizona University and Penn State.
Geerling specializes in European economic history, with a particular focus on resistance in authoritarian regimes and economics education. A recent monograph in the Springer Studies in Economic History journal provided an overview of the most serious political crimes and resistance in Nazi Germany from a quantitative economic and social science perspective.
Announcing his new appointment on Twitter, Geerling said: “After 4 years at Monash, it’s time to leave … [a] professorship at a prestigious American university is a Godfather offer. Will miss the great friendships and my students!”
