Alan Taylor to join Bank of England monetary policy committee

Macroeconomist Alan Taylor is set to join the monetary policy committee of the Bank of England.

He will take up the appointment on Sept. 2 for a three-year term, replacing outgoing external member Jonathan Haskel.

Taylor is a professor of international and public affairs at Columbia University, and has worked as a senior advisor to major financial institutions including Morgan Stanley and PIMCO.

He is a visiting scholar at the Bank of England, and his research has focused on macroeconomics, international economics, finance and economic history. Taylor obtained his P.h.D in economics from Harvard University.

Earlier this month economist Huw Pill was reappointed to the monetary policy committee at the central bank, where he is currently chief economist and executive director for monetary analysis and research.

The monetary policy committee is comprised of the governor of the bank, three deputy governors, the bank’s chief economist, and three external members.

External members are appointed by the Chancellor and can serve up to two three-year terms on the committee.
